Waiting Rooms

Often God waits with us in a waiting room of one kind or another. We are waiting for a situation to change, for the school year to end (or begin), a door to open for a new opportunity, a test to be done (or the results to come in) and a clear diagnosis to whatever is found. We wait for the kids to grow up, then wish them small again. We wait for the evidence that the diet is working, the medication is effective, that the treatment has done its job. We wait for the house to be shown, then for a good offer, then for closing. We wait in cycles and steps. We wait.

Waiting is never wasted, but worrying is never needed. If we are in Christ we never wait alone, and if we have laid the season or circumstance at His feet we can trust His timing and results. He knows our calendar, and what happens next. He is aware of the complexities and the difficulties. He knows how it messes with our brains and hearts and how weary we get. Only He knows when the house you should buy next comes on the market. And He made our bodies frail and imperfect and understands our weaknesses. He reminds us of Paul’s words over and over, “for when I am weak [in human strength], then I am strong [truly able, truly powerful, truly drawing from God’s strength].” (2 Corinthians 12:10). It’s where we are meant to be, fully relying on His strength and power. Resting in His arms, not surfing the internet for better solutions, indulging in hours of mindless TV, or shopping, drinking, or _____(insert your bad habit here).
We were made to wait. Waiting for change is woven through both the Old and New Testaments. It’s nothing new. Our God is a God who creates, and creating causes change. Of course those changes impact us, but it’s a faith walk, learning to trust Him in new and exciting (but not always fun or good) ways. It exercises our faith muscles, our prayer whispers, leaning and pressing hard on Him. He wants us to! I’m certain of it!
